Sometimes it the little things in life...

As I progress through my "career" of figure collecting I've noticed that some times the finds that make me the happiest are the little ones. This has certainly been the case with the recent acquisition from the old Bretonian range. As you know, starting with my painting of fifth edition models I have really fallen in love with the old Bretonian range. Lately the third edition figures have been one of my collecting goals.  Thanks to a couple of large overseas purchases I have been able to knock out most of this range fairly quickly. However there are some portions of this range that are extremely hard to find and if you do see them they sell for crazy money.  This is particularly true of some of the more rare war machines that Citadel made for the third edition Bretonian's.

This Saturday though I received a little package from a fellow Bretonian collector here in the states that really made my day.  Amongst some other gems it contained a Bretonian swivel gun!  Based on its size this is not an impressive figure but it's rarity has made its acquisition a special moment in my collecting.  I've never even seen one of these on eBay...so being able to trade for it and not even having to pay for international shipping is just fantastic.  Anyway here it is in all it "glory!"

Massive thanks to Warhammster for making this possible!

Cheers,

Blue

  1. This is what lead me from only collecting GW LOTR to also starting to collect WHF (my wallet and bank account hate me though)...the WHF range seems endless...only recently I joined the oldhammer group on FB and I'm discovering tons of new minis everyday. Very exciting indeed! Especially as I love bretonnians too and have been able to find lots of them for very cheap in a local shop.

I hope you find some of the other stuff too, the ballistas and mantlets seem to be very nice too!

    Cheers, Marc

    1. Cheers Mark! Yes I have also added at Ballista to my army...the mantlets I have yet to cross paths with though. The Pot de feu is an interesting figure and I would get one just for its rareness...but I'm not that enamored with it over all.

  2. I couldn't agree more with your point about the "little" finds being some of the most satisfying. I'm hunting down the last few items for Epic Squats collection I am missing and every time I get one it makes my day.

  4. A glorious little set. Very characterful, and a wonderful addition to a Bret force. It's nice to see it in the hands of someone who can do it justice too. Paint Blue, paint!

    1. It will come! I think I'll need to figure out a conversion to have a crew member holding onto the monkey tail at the back of this piece. If they fired it as depicted above it would probably spin around and brain one of them!

  5. I also love those strange, old Bretonnian siege weapons: especially the pot de feu.
Incidentally, some of the Citadel C34 Medieval Cannons and C26 Men At Arms (crew) (sculpted by the Perry's) are still in production from Wargames Foundry in their ex-Citadel range.
