Boar Boyz ...the Command Group

 Hi all,

Today I can finally present the final unit (for now) of my Marauder Boar Boy army....the Command group with Big Boss (General).

For my final entry in the Old World Army Challenge I reserved my command group.  This is a smaller unit of only five Boar Boys...but it includes the General and Army Standard as well as a small number of elite Gruntas on Barded Boars to fill out the unit and act as bodyguards to the General and the Standard.

Here is the Whole group

As with some of the other units in this army a number of these riders are repurposed from other Marauder sets like Chariot crew options etc.  Included among this number is the General himself who was designed to be mounted on a Wyvern (MB8) but is here mounted on the Barded Boar that originally came with the Marauder Boar Boy General (MM22/6).

The former boar boy general, now army standard bearer, is instead mounted on one of the Armored boars from Clam's Ewal Dvergar Range. The Army Standard is carried in the form of a back banner.  I was skeptical that this rider would work well with this mount...but now I think its my favorite of the bunch.

Two of the Grunta body guards are also "converted" from The Orc Battle Chariot (MB6)...from which we have also already seen the archer who has also been mounted on a boar.

The last body guard figure is a actual boar boy figure (MM24/3)  but fits the part stylistically and the addition of a boar with a caparison makes him look even more intimidating.

So there we have them...the last of the Marauder Boar Boyz for my all mounted Greenskin Army! I may add a mounted mage at some point...and I started working on a unit of savage orc boar boyz as well...but those will have to wait for another day.

I look forward to getting all of these along with their Wolf riders friends on the table soon for a photo shoot!

Cheers,

Blue

Moar Boar Boyz!! The horde grows stronger!!

While my progress in the OWAC has been somewhat...um...lethargic the last few months ...progress is being made! At the end of April I posted up 8 new painted Boar Boys...all of which came from the close combat units of my Boar Boy force...namely the unit armed with hand weapons and shields and the unit armed with spears and shields....which I will run as the elite Gruntas.

With the completion of these 8 boyz I have also completed the two units mentioned above.

So...first up here are the hand weapon and shield Boyz...Led by Harrin Stephens

Blue's 2019 recap post!!! What a long strange trip it's been...

Hi all,

I wanted to take the opportunity to post a brief recap of my "Year in Hobby: 2019 edition"  ...since that seems to be the type of thing you do at the end of one year and the beginning of another.

It was a productive year of hobbying for me.  I painted a quite a few figures...worked on some terrain pieces...had good games with good friends ...and finally made it to BOYL for the first time.

One of the highlights of the year for me in 2019 was my participation in the second iteration of the Old World Army Challenge.  You may remember that for the first OWAC I painted up a small army of Wood elfs....this year I returned to my absolute favorite army and all but finished it off!  The Puff and Slash Dwarf army!

Puff and Slash Dwarf Army....The Grind Continues...Part Duex!

Back with a brief update on the progress being made on the large group of marauder puff and slash dwarfs that I have been working through.  The group has expanded to 33 figures with the addition of a three figures from the classic Marauder Pike Dwarf unit...namely the Leader, Standard Bearer and a trooper.

After being out of town for a week doing some field work I immediately got back to work upon my return.

The first things I accomplished was base coating and highlighting the many Gold bitz on these figures.

Dwarf Army Progress Shots...Almost There!!

Hi all,

As most of you probably know I have spent the past six months painting frantically for the second Old World Army Challenge.  It was, once again, a grueling effort but I did manage to finish and add a significant new contingent to my Puff and Slash Dwarf Army...which is my oldest army and one of the largest.

As I was finishing the challenge and and preparing to take some shots of the entire 1000 point force that I had managed to paint...I thought it would also be a good idea to combine them with all my other Empire Dwarf figures to show the current status of the entire army.

This proved to be a lot of fun and, though the set up and prep work took some time I think it was worth the effort.  Now this army is NOT complete...several of the units will be further expanded....several have a few partially painted figures....almost all units are still lacking banners...and there is one entire unit not represented at all in these pics.  Despite these deficiencies I find this kind of photography to be very inspiring and feel that it really gives me a feel for where the army as going as well as indicating what needs to be finished up.

For this photo shoot I used two of my modular terrain tiles and a number of the houses and walls that I scratch built in the last two years...as well as a portion of the Might Fortress.  I'm still having trouble with the backdrop situation, but for the time being I used a sheet of green foam board as my backdrop...less than ideal but sufficient for now.

Anyway...lets take a look...

Here is the Dwarf line of battle for the Grand Army of Salsburg.

Chaos Renegades...3rd Squad...a beginning...

Howdy all,

***Insert excuse for long time between posts here***

Alright...now that we have that out of the way...

This fall has been a flurry of old school gaming activity and I have a lot of catching up to do so lets carry on with the Renegades.

As part of an abortive attempt to take part in the Old World Army Challenge-Squad Sprint...I have completed the first few models for Renegade Squad 3.

I started with the heavy weapon trooper for the squad and opted to go with this multi-melta guy in a fairly muted color scheme.  In addition to the heavy weapon trooper I went for two great "Nurgle Marines" and, of course, painted them in the least Nurgle-y paint jobs I could think of.  For Old Tentacle Face I went with Yellow and Blue and I like to think of the Tentacle arm flamer guy as a corrupted Storm trooper...hence the white armor.

Blue Gets Lost in the Woods...Old World Army Challenge

Hi all,

Sorry it has been so long since my last post.  Trust me I haven't been idle on the hobby front...just on the blogging front.  As some of you may have noticed I've taken up a challenge put forward by that Gentleman from the North Country...Iannick!  Iannick came up with the idea of a painting challenge in which all the participants would attempt to paint 1000pts of Oldhammer goodness over the course of six months...basically 200pts a month with one "mulligan" month if you can't get your work done for whatever reason.  Quite few people signed up for this fun a supportive event...and while a few have fallen to the wayside since it began in November, the number of painted models coming out of this challenge is nothing short of impressive.  Every participant is required to write a blog post each month with their 200 points....check out the Challenge Blog here We are half way through the challenge now so there are many many posts of Oldhammer goodness to explore. Follow the blog for regular monthly injections of yet more Lead goodness.

With the option open to start a whole new faction I dug around in my lead pile and settled on painting 1000 points of Wood Elfs.  As a dedicated Dwarf fan I've never actually painted many elves in the past....that was until the very first Bring Out Your Lead event in England.  I decided to paint an iconic wood elf Wardancer for the painting competition of that BOYL and to participate remotely.  The figure I chose was Glam...the wardnacer champion of the Skarloc's Wood Elf Archers Regiment of Renown.

...and surprisingly...I really enjoyed it!  Glam is a great figure and I am very happy with how he turned out.  That fact led to me collecting a significant number of the other Classic Goodwin Elf sculpts of the 80s and the Challenge seemed like the perfect opportunity to get started on painting up a bunch of them.

So sat down with Warhammer Armies and my box of figures and worked up a small but potent force of Wood Elfs...here is what the whole force looks like...naked
