Chaos Champion...Scale Creep Challenge Figure

 Hi all,

Upon completion of the $th ed Wolf riders I was presented the opportunity to paint something completely different...and I jumped at it.  My good friends over at the Scale Creep blog pulled together a quick Chaos Champion painting challenge...and we had only a week to complete our figures.  Total of nine Creepers participated and produced some impressive works of art!

Click HERE to see the full post with all the amazing conversions and paint jobs.

I decided to use this opportunity to paint one of the Chaos Knights that have been languishing in my storage area for years now.  And, after listening to my compatriots speak of the massive conversions they were undertaking for their champions, I decided I had to so something to kick my figure up a notch. So, in addition to picking a bad ass Chaos Steed for his mount, I also decided to add a bit of "flare" to the rider by giving him a couple of spare Kislev Winged Lancer wings that I had in my bitz box.

This is somewhat of an homage to one of my favorite 3rd edition empire knight figures...the Mounted General who has a very similar set of wings.

Anyway, this hardly counts as a "conversion", particularly when compared to the other Scale Creep entries (seriously...you gotta check them out! Click HERE) but I feel it added quite a bit of character to this Chaos Knight.

BOYL 2019....I finally made it! (Pic Heavy)

(Note: this is in no way a comprehensive description of the events going on at Foundry and Warhammer World over the weekend...If I failed to mention you or your wonderful game I apologize...no slight intended...you know I love you all!!! :) )

Well...Its a festivus Miracle!!  I've finally found a way to attend a Bring Out Your Lead (BOYL) event!!  BOYL was the first and is largest of the purely Oldhammer events that happens every year.  It was first held in 2012....and every year since then I have been dissapointed to NOT be able to attend.

...But that all changed this year!  Due to some unexpected life changes in the Blue household the opportunity presented it self and I jumped at the option to attend.  This decision was made rather last minute (2 weeks before the event) but I was able to get a reasonably priced ticket and impose upon my friends Airborne Grove and Bulldog Lopez for transportation and a place to crash.

My BOYL experience actually started at Warhammer World were I joined a number of other Oldhammer compatriots for fantastic Rogue trader Realms of Chaos Warband Rumble...hosted by Colin.

Chaos Boba Fett! My first Painted Chaos Renegade

Hi all!

Just a quick post to day to share my first ever painted Chaos Renegade.  Honestly I've been somewhat intimidated by these fantastic figures.  There is so much going on with each figure and so many options for color choices that I have been paralyzed by indecision.

That all changed the other day when I was cataloging my Renegade collection and I noticed that one of the Heavy Weapon troopers had a helmet that was very similar in shape to Boba Fett's ...everyone's favorite Bounty Hunter from Star Wars.

INSPIRATION!

A few minutes of Google Image searching later and I had some decent reference pics to work from.

Oldhammer in the New World: Blue's View...Day 2

Sunday found me up and ready to go by 830...despite a running battle with the rabid bacon thieves who were raiding my hotels breakfast bar all morning...ggggrrrr friggin kids!!!

Anyway...I arrived at DropZone shortly after 9am and found things just getting rolling.  About a half a dozen folks were already there...including a much refreshed Blake after a good nights sleep.

After having kind of floated around chatting and what not for day one I was ready to dive right into a game...luckily for me Tom was obliging and we quickly pulled together a moderate sized pick up battle (2k-ish points) that we set up on one end of Rusty's warband table.  Tom brought out his very impressive chaos army and I was finally able to get my dwarfs on table!

So I don't want to spill all the beans on the battle itself as I'm sure there will be future posts in which to tell that story.  Suffice to say that Tom and I had a blast and I was overjoyed to get my lads on the table against such a well painted and led opponent.  There were laughs... there were tears... and the dice gods were fickle at times but ...thats Oldhammer for ya!

I loved every minute of it!

Here are a couple of teaser pics...you'll have to wait for the rest.

Oldhammer in the New World: Blue's View...Day 1

Well, its Wednesday night and I finally feel ready to review the weekends events in detail....the drive home sucked and I'm only now feeling human again.

As previously mentioned I arrived in Baltimore around 7:30 ion Friday and met up with Tom (AirborneGrove) and Don (Thefan) at DropZone Games to help set-up.  Soon Rusty and Richard (OrcLord) showed up with the main tables and we had our hands full bringing in the supplies for the RoC Warbands and Siege Games.  But we could only get so far before DropZone closed for the night.

As I understand it the crew staying at the Days Inn (You know who you are!) might have had a bit to drink and stayed up half the night talking.  I on the other hand was back in my hotel room by 10 and finished up a few things on my army then sacked out...the 9 hour drive had caught up to me.

Saturday morning I loaded up and was at DropZone by 9am.  Caught up with the same crew from the previous night and also finally got to meet Blake and Kyle in person as well.  We all got busy setting up tables...Don set up his 3D Space Hulk table...We all Chipped in helping Richard with the enormous mass of troops for his spectacular siege game...and the rest of the terrain was added to the Warbands table.

As the morning wore on more and more folks arrived and soon the place had more than 20 Oldhammerers shooting the shit...trading lead...ogling the siege game and other tables and generally having a good old time. During this time Chris (Darrin Stephens) Showed up and set up his RT Demo game and soon the dice were flying.

Richard, Don, Andy, Gary and anyone who could be persuaded to roll some dice stopped by the Siege game that pitted a truly epic Greenskin horde attempting the clear the heavily defended Empire earthworks in front of the city wall they hopped to take.   The number and quality of miniatures on this table was truly mind blowing.  Lets look at some pictures!

Combat Cards: Space Wars...a review

As some of you may remember a few months ago I picked up several sets of the original Citadel Combat Cards for a pittance.  These were still new in the wrapper and I have left them that way as long as possible.  Well the time has come to open a pack and take a look...as I have been on a bit of a RT 40K right now I thought I would start with the Space Wars pack.

Lets have a look!

Here they are new in the package...yep!  Still on the card and everything!

Here is the back of the package which you can see has a brief set of rules for a simple card game using the combat cards.  Back in the day my boys and I played this game on a regular basis for a few weeks...I remember it being too basic to be interesting in the long term but we had fun with it for awhile...and lets face it the eye candy was the important part anyway...:)
